Are petrol prices in France cheaper or more expensive than the UK?
I’m going to Normandy and am wondering whether i should fill up in Portsmouth or France.

Dominic, like I stated, wait until the page loads entirely… Last date is March 1st, 2010… How is that out-of-date??

The information given above is ridiculously out of date.
The newspapers today were full of the fact that petrol in the UK is the highest in Europe at the moment.
Fuel is marginally cheaper in France, but by the time you have paid commission on your debit or credit card on the exchange rate, it makes it very close.

Buy it at a supermarket/ hypermarket like Auchan, Leclerc or Intermarché and it is cheaper than at classic petrol pumps like Shell. These are usually located on the outer fringes of towns on commercial estates and are often well advertised as you leave towns.
@cerbere. I did wait and the table resolutely froze on 1999.
The information I give is based on my own experience. I travel weekly between France and the UK by car. In any case, data given in gallons is not particularly helpful since fuel is sold by the litre both in France and the UK. It does not look as if you live in the UK at the moment, where prices have hiked up recently due to government tax.
Diesel is £1.13 a litre in the UK, and €1 in France.

I live in France, so I don’t know what how it is in the UK but I can tell you French prices so that you can compare. Usually, depends on the station :
Unleaded 95 or 98 = About 1,3 to 1,4€ per litre
Diesel = Between 1€ and 1,1€ per litre
LPG = Around 0,7€ (per litre also I guess, don’t know what it is like for LPG)
