Info For Normandy France History Please?

An elderly friend of mine wants to know about an american parashutist that landed on the spire of a church and was spared by the Germans during the war. Does anyone have any information on this or a link i could find out for him Many thanks – need to know the name of the church and his name if possible.

1 Can Para Monument Varaville Normandy France WWII

Video of the monument to the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion at Varaville in Normandy France. The men of 1 Can Para parachuted into France at midnight on June 6, 1944 and gathered at Varaville to repel a German counterattack against the landing at Sword Beach later that day. Merville Battery Museum Normandy France WWII D-Day
